Prime lamb and sheep for meat.
2. Location of the Industry:
Producers of prime lamb and sheep for meat are located throughout the region but mainly in Shire of Delatite (43% of all growers), Wangaratta (11%), Rutherglen (10%), Tallangatta (10%), and Oxley (6%).
3. Employment and Labour :
a. Number of Producers
According to ABS there are 760 growers.
b. Number Regularly Employed:
Most growers would be fully employed with farm activities. Some prime lamb producers would have other sources of farm income.
4. Annual Production:
Production is measured in the value of sheep and lamb slaughtering, provided by ABS Ag Census 1994.
5. Value of Product:
Gross value of production = $10.4 million.
