It is with much pleasure that I have the opportunity to present the 9th Annual Chairman’s Report for 2005-2006.

The Australian Alpine Valleys Agribusiness Forum (AAVAF) has had an exceeding expectations year with a diverse number of projects, many happy customers and a healthy organisation.

I would like to sincerely thank the board for their support and guidance in my first year as Chair of the board and their professional and dedicated contribution to the success of the projects undertaken throughout the year. The breadth of skills you bring to the table has assisted greatly the agribusiness sector of the region and you have provided initiatives, opportunities and guidance to many small and emerging businesses across the region. You have also driven the direction and speed of our activities over the year and for that and your combined assistance I am thankful. I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Peter Long’s leadership and enormous contribution to the direction and achievements of the Forum, particularly as Chairman for a number of years until October last year. On behalf of the board and members I thank you Peter.

I would like to acknowledge the board members who have elected not to renominate. Renee Boote joined the Board this year and Mac Paton who have been sound contributors to the organisation. Mac particularly has been a long term contributor to the Forum. He has had a 10 year association with the Forum and seen it in its many guises. His interest in water and dairy has been most useful in developing our policy in a time when the water debate is critical to regional livelihoods. Our most sincere thanks Mac for your tenacious contribution and we wish you all the best for the future.

Brian Thompson, Community Relations Manger of the Department of Primary Industries has been their representative on the Board and made an enormous contributor to the success of the Forum during his appointment. He has provided us with the knowledge and networks that have opened many doors and linked us with the regional strategy the Department of Primary Industries has for North East Victoria. We are thankful for the minister giving us Brian’s time and expertise and the Department’s assistance. Brian will be resigning from the Board but has offered to assist where possible to ensure the Department has a strong tie to the Forum.
