The Australian Alpine Valleys Agribusiness Forum is building on the success of its 2006 Alps to Asia campaign and is this year broadening its approach by coordinating both in-bound and out-bound trade missions to assist local agribusinesses break into the Asian marketplace.

Next month the agribusiness forum will host an in-bound trade mission.

According to Lachlan Campbell from Australian Alpine Valleys Agribusiness Forum, a deal has been secured with a Hong Kong restaurant chain and in late-April the agribusiness forum will host a food and wine buyer who is flying to Australia specifically to sample and select Northeast produce to be used in an exclusive two month in-restaurant promotion across Hong Kong.

“This relationship has been brokered by Ms Victoria Chick from Internat, an Albury-based export logistics company,” Mr Campbell said.

A final briefing to the participating businesses attending Food and Hotel Asia was carried out on Monday the 27 March in Beechworth. The six businesses - EV Olives, North East Venison, Auldstone Cellars, Cherrybrook Farm, Granite Range Estate and The Game Meat Company - have all participated in the training that was offered as part of the project.

The final briefing had Victoria Chick from Internat speaking about the do's and don'ts of doing business in Asia. Her business has been in export for 30 years to South East Asia so she was well placed to advise the participants on the finer points of doing deals in Asia.
