Around 40 people attended the sixth Annual General Meeting of the Australian Alpine Valleys Agribusiness Forum, at Rutherglen, on Monday 29th November 2004. Chairman Peter Long gave his address, and formal business was conducted followed by a break for some refreshments. Reports were presented by AlpValleys board members Phil Ward and Allan Hoppe giving details of current projects. Board member Brian Thompson discussed the activities of the AlpValleys Land and Water Use Committee.
Geoff Turnbull, board member of AlpValleys and founder of WangNET, gave participants a glimpse of the revitalised AlpValleys website, and how this site can help members promote their business and their industry. Members were encouraged to submit their details for linking from the AlpValleys site to their own site, as well as contributing information on their industry for inclusion in the Industries section of the site. He also gave the financial report.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation by David Ch’ng who spoke on the topic of Globalisation and Doing Business in Asia. David has extensive experience in the diverse areas of industrial and business administration, marketing and market research in Australia, South East Asia and the Netherlands. He is one of Australia’s leading experts on the Overseas Chinese entrepreneurs in Asia, and consults to organizations such as The Asialink Centre, The Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific (RIAP), Managing Differences Pty. Ltd., and the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) for international briefings and executive development programmes.
David Shearer of the Department of Primary Industry also gave a presentation on doing business in Asia, with a focus on “Amazing Australia” and the outcomes of the Yarra Valley promotion.
